Spring Break has Begun!

Hopefully, we'll have a week of relaxation, productivity and fun.... we'll see!

Egg Race Report

A week late, but we continued with the Egg Race tradition. Joe was the winner, but not by much. I think Joey will have him next year. Stefan did well without any tears and Emmi was able to go back and forth without dropping her egg. They loved it.

The Cracking of the Egg
Emmi beat Daddy... she was so happy!
Joey beat Daddy & Stefan... they can't wait for rematches next year.

Woke to Snow!

Here it is... March 28th and we have snow. It didn't stick to the roads, but the grass, trees and rooftops were white for a while. I walked Joey to the bus in the snow while he caught snowflakes on his tongue. It also hailed several times today, was extremely windy and bitter cold... for us! No baseball practice this evening... and we begin Spring Break!

Is It Wrong?

Is it wrong? Is something wrong with me that I just sorted my kids Easter candy? It was driving me crazy... all lumped together... chocolate with the jelly beans and skittles. (I don't want my m&m's to have a fruit flavor to them.) So there I sat with my bowls and baggies and got it all organized. Some would say I need to get a life, others may praise me for being "organized". Maybe it's an illness. But I feel so much better now!

Baseball has FINALLY begun!

The rain stopped and baseball practice could finally happen. The boys were so excited. Joey had a headache so he sat out (actually slept in the car). Stefan ran out on the field... skinny little kid... ready to play. One of the "dad" coaches bent down on one knee and threw him the ball. He bobbled it, but finally got it. He then threw it back. The coach had to jump up quickly to retrieve the zinging ball out of the air. They turned and looked at me with "that look". I smiled. A few more catches and throws and then... you know, that kid has an arm. Stefan was beaming.

About 1/2 an hour into practice Joey made it out of the car... in his crocks he asked me for his mit and says, "My heads at about a "5", where's my mit?" I chuckled... A) I didn't bring your mit, B) you have crocks on and C) your not playing with your head at a "5". You can, however, sit in the dugout and watch practice. So there I sat with my boy as he sized up the team. He leaned over casually and said, "Stefan's not bad; we've been practicing." I smiled... he can't wait to get out there next time and show them what he's got.

And where was Emmi? Somehow the stars aligned and the boys practice on the field right next to the big play structure. She immediately found a friend (a sister of one of the boys on the baseball team) and played and chatted the girls ear off for an hour.

Remember when....

A blast from last summer... Jeep was a puppy... now he's huge!

In only 11 months time he has grown and grown and grown and continues to grow. Even through all of his misgivings, he is a great dog or will be when he's fully trained!

Another Monday around here. Off to school for everyone. I have a cold and am not feeling as peppy as I should. However, I will buck-up and make it all happen. If the rain stops, the boys will finally have baseball practice. It has rained on every one of their practice days. Joe is out of town (again), so I will hold down the fort. I'm looking forward to Spring Break... I'd like to tackle a few projects around the house!

Pictures Tell the Story

Sunday afternoon we rousted the two dogs and 3 kids over to the campus for a walk through the field and forest. Everyone was happy and tired!

All is Fine

After a crazy week, everyone is fine. Joey went back to school on Friday. The doctors "helped" him by putting him on Miralax for 10 days. He is feeling great... running around like a 7 year old should.

Stefan continues to amaze us with how he is picking up on reading. He loves having the ability to learn.

And Ms. Em is always entertaining us. She spent her morning yesterday in Kindergarten with me (I was the class helper). She loved it.

I finished my book last night and began another. It is so nice that I can read for me know. I still read for the kids, but I can take time for me. I will head out in a few minutes to take my C-BEST test. It is the first test I need to take for getting my WA Teaching License. I took this test more than 10 years ago... here I go again.

Joe is home, exhausted from travel and ready to do it all again. Joe is on the swim lesson run. This evening we have a babysitter arriving... Joe and I head will head out for a couple of hours and H will entertain the troops.

Jeep headed in for a bath and haircut... I will have to post a picture later of the awesome coloring he has when his hair is short. Molly is Molly. Does what she wants, when she wants. Still sassy and very sweet.

And another Saturday begins...

ER Visit

It finally happened. Joe is traveling and Joey needs a trip to the ER. He's "fine", by the way. Joey complained of an upset stomach for most of the weekend. I was gone (see entry below) and so I chalked it up to a late night at a birthday party. However, by Sunday night when he was complaining that his back hurt and his stomach still hurt and I was remember that he didn't get in the pool to swim on Saturday my mommy instinct began to worry.

Monday morning he was up for school and seemed fine... so off he went. I picked the boys up from the bus and Stefan was across the street first... "Mom, Joey's sick." Uh, oh... I turned to see him white, wincing, head down, headed home as fast as he could. When I entered the house he was SCREAMING and kicking in pain from his stomach. I looked at Stefan and Em, told them to grab a snack and get in the car. We were headed to the doctor.

We checked in to the same day clinic and were told it would be a 2 hour wait. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So we waited for 15 minutes as Joey is on the floor writhing around, (but not screaming because that would be embarrassing.) I decided to walk over to his doctor and see if they could get him in... NO. However, (she says), if he is in that much pain they need to see him, so let them know. I head back to Joey still on the floor and then the MOMMY kicked in. In I went to the "gals" and pleaded my case. Okay, I know better than to get all huffy, because that gets you no where. So I calmly with a whisper voice pleaded for my son and pointed to where he was... still on the floor flinging himself. Hum... within 4 minutes a nurse (a real nurse) was out to get us. Within 10 minutes in comes a REAL doctor. The doctor is concerned. The first thought in everyone's mind is his appendix. However, he was complaining of the pain in the middle of his stomach, so it wasn't adding up. The doctor wants to ultra sound him, but of course, it is now 5 o'clock and the clinic is closing and he doesn't have any equipment to use. So my choice is to go home and hope for the best (remember... Joe traveling, three kids, etc) or head over to the ER. Off we go with our transfer papers to the ER.

Now, since I have transfer papers I think that I will get right in... WRONG. Another 1 1/2 hour wait (In the meantime, I have tried calling for help. Stefan and Em need to be somewhere else as they are BORED. So, here comes Mr. Jeff to the rescue. Scoops up Stefan and Em and heads to the freedom farm with them.) Finally, it is our turn. Joey gets a room, pee's in a cup, a night gown, and his own REMOTE CONTROL (so cool, in his words). And we wait. I am forced to watch Arena Football and Basketball and SpongeBob. Which I can't stand, but the kids is in pain.

Finally a Doctor. He checks him... pretty sure the appendix is okay as he is not in any pain on the sides of the tummy... just the middle. He listens to the middle and says... it's full. Full of what? You know... So we're off to an xray to make sure that there isn't anything else... obstruction, etc. Then he informs me that in 98% of boys who come in with this the problem is actually that they don't always finish going to the bathroom and they get "backed-up". Oh, I say, does that happen in a weekend? NO, in the course of a year. WHAT?!?!?!? Okay, what do we do? You take medicine for 3 months or so that helps keep everything on course and retrains the bladder. Off to the xray. Joey is thrilled. He gets to ride in the bed down the hallway. So cool for a 7 year old. He gets to go up on the bed, move over to the next bed, have a cool picture taken (will it hurt? should I smile... so cute) and then back over to his bed, back down the hallway and the technician (being very cool) lets him push the big button to swing the doors open so he can be pushed on through.

Then, we WAIT. Kids are screaming, Joey is watching TV and I'm exhausted. Finally, Doctor arrives and says... no obstruction... bladders is full, but not "backed-up" ... so he has a virus. Eventually, somethings going to happen... okay so now I take him home, feed him "easy" foods and wait for the "event". All he can say is, "I'm hungry... can you make me an egg salad sandwich." Which I do as soon as we retrieve Stefan and Em.

6am... Joey is in my bed writhing in pain and after about 10 minutes, it subsides. All we can do is wait.

Scrapping Marathon

I spent all day Friday and Saturday scrappin' at a

retreat in Portland! Let me give you an idea of the hours. I arrived at 10:15 Friday morning and left to head home at 10:45 pm. I was back Saturday morning by 7:15 and left for home at 1:30AM. I am exhausted, my back hurts and I am thrilled with my progress. I completed 39 pages. It was great. I spent all of my focused time and effort on Joey from age 3 on. It was so much fun to relive him as a young boy... still a Toddler. Of course... kudos to Joe... he was on kid, dog and house duty. Not only did he do great, he managed to take all three to swim lessons and make a great dinner for everyone. I am so lucky!
